Hi Goldston! I came across this website when I was searching the location of Goldston as it related to Hurricane Irene's effect. My mother Bessie White Wilkerson was borne in Moore Co. and her (our) family's homestead is in Goldston. My mother's brothers are Boston, William, Archie, Wesley, Russell, Sandy, and Clarence White and sisters are Lucille White Ritter, Nora White Chisholm, andDallas White Womble (all deceased including my mother). All but Sandy, Clarence, Boston, Lucille, Nora and my mother Bessie lived in Goldston until the time of their death. I still have cousins living in Goldston now. I found a second cousin by finding this site. I'm going to email her. Thank you for developing this site and I will continue to visit. |

Married John Robert Goldston, 12/27/66 divorced 1989. He was the son of Robert Lee Goldston, Jr. and Mary Lee Gooch. We had one child, Barbara Tippins Goldston, always called Tippins (a family name from my side). As of 2011, Tippins is a Major in the Army and is a psychologist with the SERE program at Ft. Rucker, AL. John's brother Philip had one child, Giget Lee Goldston, always called Gigi. She had one daughter as far as I know. I hope this information helps someone. |

I am descendant of Goldston's from Chatham Co. NC, with a migration path to Wilson Co. TN, Grayson Co. TX, Chaves Co. NM, Lubbock/Terry Co. Tx. and now Tarrant Co. TX. There is a descendant book called "The Families and Descendants of Golsan, Golson, Gholson, Gholston" by James M. Black (Salt Lake City) that may answer questions that many have about Goldston lineage. Not sure if it is still in print as I have had mine since early 1980's. I am trying to trace my family tree and thought this may be a good place to start. My Father Elbert Goldston is from Pittsboro NC. He is the Eldest Son of Roy Goldston and Patty Snipes. He has on Sister Laybelle Goldston and had a Brother Earl Goldston. I don't know much more about this side of my Family. I would like to apologize to the people of Goldston NC for any damage my sister Elizabeth Tomaszewski may have caused while living in your fine town these past 2 years. Sadly my sister Elizabeth is a substance abuser and has been for many years now. She recently relocated back to New Jersey with the intention of taking care of our elderly mother. Upon arriving back to NJ we discovered that not only has Elizabeth not stopped abusing drugs she has begun to commit larceny to maintain her addiction. Subsequently she was removed from our mother's house with police intervention and is now living at a women's shelter in Trenton NJ. Since she has refused to commit herself to a rehabilitation facility, our family has been forced to cut all association with her. Recently our family became aware that Elizabeth's reputation as a drug abuser was becoming known in the town of Goldston. Interesting website. My mother's maiden name was Gholston. She was born in El Reno Oklahoma(1915) and was the daughter of John Hedrick Gholston, son of James Wiley Gholston and Sarah Elizabeth Sercy. He was from Anderson and Roane Tenn, and she I think was from Chatham NC.James Wiley was the son of William Gholston and Martha Patsey Jones.William's father was One of the many John's in the tree, who spelled his name Goldston.I have a pretty well documented tree, but things get confusing back there in time because of the use of family names, and confusion in the spelling of the last name.Does anyone have any information on the Sercy family? The Town of Goldston NC will celebrate it's Centennial on Saturday, October 13, 2007 from 10am-3pm on Main Street. The annual Old Fashioned Day will be held the same day downtown along Belleview Street. Come & join the fun!
The man whom for whom the town was named, Joseph John Goldston, will be one of the honorees. I'd like to update Herbert Goldston's 1950's family history,(which Mark Askins has graciously posted on this site)for the Centennial Celebration. I am just concentrating on the decendants of Joseph John for now since time is short. There are now at least 3 new generations, since 50 years have passed since Herbert did his monumental work.
If you are a direct decendant of one of Joseph John Goldston's children and there are additions you can make on your branch of the tree, please contact me at the above email address as soon as possible.

My family "Golston" came out of S.C. in the late 1800's, my great grand father is William Golston one of his sons Luther in my grand father I'm trying to find any information.

Chatham County is where I was born. Even though I do not live there now, I visit North Carolina at least once a year to see my relatives. I usually travel to Greensboro, Siler City, Pittsboro, Goldston, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham and other cities during any visit and I enjoy seeing these places to see how they have grown and changed through the years.

Went to and finished High school at Goldston in 1949, joined the Navy during the Korean war. When I came back home .went to work as a DJ at WEYE in Sanford. I have just recently found this website, and it's really interesting to see some names on your guestbook that I remember. I grew up close to Goldston and graduated from Goldston High School in 1953. My husband also went to school there and grew up in Carbonton. So, we have a lot of good memories of Goldston. My mother and father were well known in and around Goldston. Jehugh and Gladys Burke. In fact the Park was named in his memory.He was a barber there for many years and the scorekeeper for the basketball games.Goldston is a great place to live and raise children. |

Does any one have any info. on the old Dormetory house? I know it was built in 1890. Teachers lived there that taught at the old school on the corner lot where the rescue building is now. I lived in the old house when I was about 10. It was haunted. I lived downstairs. Whenever someone moved in upstairs they never stayed long. How long was it a Dormetory? Did anyone die in it? |

Wow! We actually have a web site! I moved to Goldston when I was 10 years old. Since then I have lived in FL, CA, and at the coast of NC (husband was in the Marines), and have recently moved back here to Goldston. It's always good to be home. |

Great to find this site! I am the 8th generation grandson (I believe) of the original William Goldston. My great-grandfather, Aubrey F. Goldston was the one that planned the first reunion in Goldston on July 23, 1950. He was the first Goldston to settle in Lake Waccamaw, NC. His picture is, or used to be, in the post office in Goldston. I went to a reunion as a young child but have been out of touch since. My wife, Dana and I have two girls (so I guess my name stops with me!), Aubrey Grace Goldston and Carlee Savannah Goldston. We live in Little River, SC. I am looking for a coat of arms to hang on my wall and solicit any direction as to where to find one or a picture. Great job to all those who work and keep up this site!!! |

Yes, Joseph John Goldston owned the land and gave it to the town to put the train depot on it This is why the town is named Goldston. The building with Pepsi all over it is Rufus' Restaraunt.

M.Alice was born on 12/05/1945 to John Adlee, & Bonnie (Cox) Goldston of Marlow Oklahoma. She is the third of six children to John & Bonnie. John A. was the son of John Henry (PawPaw)& Alice Miller,Goldston. Alice Miller was from Hope AK.
They had five children, four of which lived to adulthood. Lorene, John, Emma, & Melvina. Melvina is still alive and lives in Duncan OK. She is married to Willis Horner.
In 1982? we visited Goldston NC, and spoke with Enna Burnes. We visited the Goldston cemitary and were shocked to find M. Alice Goldston who is laid to rest there, and was born 100 years to the date earlier.

I drove to Goldston today; it was so nice to visit the area where my ancestors have lived and many of my relatives still do today. Only learned of this just this year. Joseph John Goldston, Sr., I believe was the son of William Goldston (d. 1808) and it was his son who at the time owned the land where the town, churches, or other buildings are and donated land for the train depot. Is that right? I saw where Joseph Jackson Goldston was mentioned in one genealogy but the "Jackson" is incorrect and should be Joseph John (as he was named after Joseph John Alston, a very close friend of his father, William Goldston. Is that right?
I saw the place that had "Pepsi" all over it and wondered if it was a restaurant and I saw a sign that had "Alston house" on it but I probably didn't drive far enough down the road (Is it on Main St.?) Who originally lived in the Alston house? I am a descendent of another of William Goldston's sons, George Washington Goldston, b. 1796. |

In about 1971 I lived in Goldston NC. I was about 11 years old. My Dad worked at the saw mill which I noticed was closed down. And we use to go play bingo alot. Me and my sisters went there July 5th to visit the house we use to live in. It is a 2 story white house near the saw mill. I can't remember the name of the street. The house is still there. It looks like it's empty but remodeling. We looked in window it looks like they might be turning it into a museum. I believe I am a descendent of George Washington Irving Goldston (b.1830) and Harriet Johnson (she was from Fayetteville). One of their children, Margaret LeRoy Goldston m. Dr. John L. McKay of Bladen County in 1874 and my grandmother was one of their 4 children. Their first two children died in infancy, then Irving Bascom McKay was born in 1879. I just recently learned that from 1909-1911, he was President of Rutherford College; then my grandmother, Margaret "Maggie" Goldston McKay was born in 1883. My mother (b. 1917) was the fifth of six children born to her and Louis Alexander Maultsby. She was born Kathleen McKay Maultsby. It was great to find this web site. I went to Goldston High School from the first grade to graduation on May 26, 1955. I have lived in Texas for almost 49 years. However, I am planning to move back to Goldston or Gulf in the next year or so. The Goldston family home and cemetary are behind one of my brother's home. I have some day lillies in my yard that came from the old home place. Also, one of the Goldston brothers moved to Texas and became rich in the oil business. Although he passed away during the last 30 years, the company is still here in Houston. I don't remember his name. I very much enjoyed the history of Goldston and reading the e-mail's.
