Comments My maiden name was Goldston and I'm trying to research my dad's family. They migrated from NC to TN and then into Texas where I was at least 5th generation Texan before moving to IN. Comments I am trying to trace my family tree and thought this may be a good place to start. My Father Elbert Goldston is from Pittsboro NC. He is the Eldest Son of Roy Goldston and Patty Snipes. Comments I would like to apologize to the people of Goldston NC for any damage my sister Elizabeth Tomaszewski may have caused while living in your fine town these past 2 years. Sadly my sister Elizabeth is a substance abuser and has been for many years now. She recently relocated back to New Jersey with the intention of taking care of our elderly mother. Upon arriving back to NJ we discovered that not only has Elizabeth not stopped abusing drugs she has begun to commit larceny to maintain her addiction. Subsequently she was removed from our mother's house with police intervention and is now living at a women's shelter in Trenton NJ. Since she has refused to commit herself to a rehabilitation facility, our family has been forced to cut all association with her. Recently our family became aware that Elizabeth's reputation as a drug abuser was becoming known in the town of Goldston. Our family is absolutely sick over this situation and would like to express just how sorry we are that Eliza

She was born in El Reno Oklahoma(1915) and was the daughter of John Hedrick Gholston, son of James Wiley Gholston and Sarah Elizabeth Sercy. The annual Old Fashioned Day will be held the same day downtown along Belleview Street. Come & join the fun! I am just concentrating on the decendants of Joseph John for now since time is short. There are now at least 3 new generations, since 50 years have passed since Herbert did his monumental work. I grew up close to Goldston and graduated from Goldston High School in 1953. My husband also went to school there and grew up in Carbonton. So, we have a lot of good memories of Goldston. Comments Does any one have any info. on the old Dormetory house? I know it was built in 1890. Teachers lived there that taught at the old school on the corner lot where the rescue building is now. I lived in the old house when I was about 10. It was haunted. I lived downstairs. Whenever someone moved in upstairs they never stayed long. How long was it a Dormetory? Did anyone die in it?

Comments Great to find this site! I am the 8th generation grandson (I believe) of the original William Goldston. My great-grandfather, Aubrey F. Goldston was the one that planned the first reunion in Goldston on July 23, 1950. He was the first Goldston to settle in Lake Waccamaw, NC. His picture is, or used to be, in the post office in Goldston. I went to a reunion as a young child but have been out of touch since. My wife, Dana and I have two girls (so I guess my name stops with me!), Aubrey Grace Goldston and Carlee Savannah Goldston. We live in Little River, SC. Comments To Kay Dudley Yes, Joseph John Goldston owned the land and gave it to the town to put the train depot on it This is why the town is named Goldston. The building with Pepsi all over it is Rufus' Restaraunt. The Alston House is not in Goldston. It is the site of a battle from the American Revoltion. it is about 10 miles south towards Carthage. Comments I drove to Goldston today; it was so nice to visit the area where my ancestors have lived and many of my relatives still do today. Only learned of this just this year. Joseph John Goldston, Sr., I believe was the son of William Goldston (d. 1808) and it was his son who at the time owned the land where the town, churches, or other buildings are and donated land for the train depot. Is that right? I saw where Joseph Jackson Goldston was mentioned in one genealogy but the "Jackson" is incorrect and should be Joseph John (as he was named after Joseph John Alston, a very close friend of his father, William Goldston. Is that right? I saw the place that had "Pepsi" all over it and wondered if it was a restaurant and I saw a sign that had "Alston house" on it but I probably didn't drive far enough down the road (Is it on Main St.?) Who originally lived in the Alston house? I am a descendent of another of William Goldston's sons, George Washington Goldston, b. 1796.

Comments In about 1971 I lived in Goldston NC. I was about 11 years old. My Dad worked at the saw mill which I noticed was closed down. And we use to go play bingo alot. Me and my sisters went there July 5th to visit the house we use to live in. It is a 2 story white house near the saw mill. I can't remember the name of the street. The house is still there. It looks like it's empty but remodeling. We looked in window it looks like they might be turning it into a museum. Comments I believe I am a descendent of George Washington Irving Goldston (b.1830) and Harriet Johnson (she was from Fayetteville). One of their children, Margaret LeRoy Goldston m. Dr. John L. McKay of Bladen County in 1874 and my grandmother was one of their 4 children. Their first two children died in infancy, then Irving Bascom McKay was born in 1879. I just recently learned that from 1909-1911, he was President of Rutherford College; then my grandmother, Margaret "Maggie" Goldston McKay was born in 1883. My mother (b. 1917) was the fifth of six children born to her and Louis Alexander Maultsby. She was born Kathleen McKay Maultsby. Comments It was great to find this web site. I went to Goldston High School from the first grade to graduation on May 26, 1955. I have lived in Texas for almost 49 years. However, I am planning to move back to Goldston or Gulf in the next year or so. The Goldston family home and cemetary are behind one of my brother's home. I have some day lillies in my yard that came from the old home place. Also, one of the Goldston brothers moved to Texas and became rich in the oil business. Although he passed away during the last 30 years, the company is still here in Houston. I don't remember his name. I very much enjoyed the history of Goldston and reading the e-mail's. I have tried Mapquest and it tells me to take 64 thru Pittsboro or to go thru Sanford but on the map it looks like you are going out of your way. Anyone know any shortcut back roads. Comments for the last 30 years My maternal grandparents, Bill and Ethel Thames, moved to Goldston from Dunn in 1953 (they owned the big old brick house with the tin roof across from the old ESSO station on 421) and lived there until my grandfather died in 1984 and my grandmother moved to a home in Saford a few years ago.
